Free Parametric Laser Box Generator

Designing a perfect finger-joint box for laser cutting is normally a tedious task involving complex CAD software and tedious math. Our Ultimate Laser Box Generator eliminates the hassle by instantly creating perfectly fitted, parametric box templates directly in your web browser.

How It Works

Creating your custom box takes seconds. Follow these steps:

  1. Set your Dimensions: Input the exact Width, Depth, and Height of the box you wish to create. These measurements represent the external dimensions of the box.
  2. Define Material Thickness: Measure your wood, acrylic, or MDF with calipers. Enter the exact thickness (e.g., 3.1mm) to ensure the finger joints slot together perfectly without being too loose.
  3. Adjust the Joints: Modify the "Tab Width" to control how many interlocking fingers are generated. Smaller numbers create more teeth, while larger numbers create fewer, wider teeth.
  4. Set Kerf Compensation: Input your laser's cut width (kerf). The generator will automatically offset the paths to ensure a tight friction fit without needing glue.
  5. Export & Cut: Click download to get a clean SVG for LightBurn, a DXF for AutoCAD/Illustrator, or raw G-Code for LaserGRBL machines.

LightBurn Ready

The SVG files generated by this tool use non-scaling strokes and pure vector paths, making them 100% compatible with LightBurn and xTool Creative Space instantly upon import.

Client-Side Processing

All geometry is calculated inside your browser using JavaScript. No waiting for a server to render your files, and no waiting in queues. It's instant and private.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kerf and why does it matter?

When a laser beam cuts through material, it burns away a tiny amount of that material. This burned-away width is called the "kerf." If you design a 10mm tab to fit into a 10mm slot, the laser will cut away 0.1mm on each side, making the tab 9.8mm and the slot 10.2mm—resulting in a loose box. Setting the kerf parameter in our tool automatically adjusts the vectors to compensate for this loss, ensuring a satisfying "snap" fit.

Are the dimensions internal or external?

The dimensions you input (Width, Depth, Height) dictate the external dimensions of the assembled box. To calculate the internal volume, subtract double your material thickness from each dimension.

Can I make a box without a lid?

Yes! Simply check the "Open Top (No Lid)" checkbox in the left-hand menu. The generator will instantly remove the top panel and adjust the top edges of the front, back, and side panels to be perfectly flat instead of having interlocking fingers.

Success!
